题目：In many countries today, people buy a range of household goods ( television, microwave, oven and rick cookers) Is it a positive or negative development?
It has been suggested that everyone in the world want to own a car, a TV and a fridge. Do you think disadvantage of such a development outweigh advantages?
Modem life is characterized by its materialism. People around the world crave for a dazzling array of products like fridges, computers or cars. People are not to be blamed for their swelling material desires which, however, should not be carried to extremes.
The increasing demand for cars and other consumer goods has positive sides. By producing these goods, the employment rate will be enhanced due to the act that assembly lines need more workers. For example, many automobile multinationals set branches overseas and recruit thousands of local workers. In the meantime, the strong need of goods actually is defined as a pushing force behind productivity, which is always the major concern of economists. Notably, the popularity of cars enables people to word at a farther radius and save much time for commuters. TV, as has been accepted, provides people with immediate information about the latest news while fridge has solved the storage of food that would have been thrown into the dustbin in the past for they are easily rotten under hot weather.
Granted, all those have rendered our life more convenient and comfortable, but when we get complacent about the benefits derived from materialism, we are becoming the victim of materials. Cars have squashed the streets and highways; traffic fumes have become one of the culprits of lung cancer. TV is producing a mountain of information bombarding people in every corner of the world, erasing original culture and deepening prejudice. Fridges are producing million tons of Freon which is the main damaging gas to ozone layer over the Antarctic.
Thus, it is predictable that people throughout the world will enjoy a better life with more modern products like cars and TV entering their households. We are becoming increasingly dependent those necessities. But we still need to guard against the problems of the materialized life by maintaining our harmonious relationship with the nature, the environment and our inner self.
